ACT II You hope for a reprieve, to be saved by….. love? Or by yearning for an eternal form. Physically, no matter what you do, there is frustration, no window stays open, no door lets you out. Your hope is secret and internalized, faint but persistent You hardly recognize your reflection in the mirror. Time is passing. Your bed is now empty (line 20) but it wasn’t always. You have changed. Escape=change is now less possible. You are almost defeated by frustration and waiting. ACT III The key to Act III is in the words of line14 “standing irresolute” adj. Unsure of how to act or proceed; undecided. Lacking in resolution; indecisive. The small boy glistening fresh with rain is you, it is that part of you where your hope still flickers; the “inner child” if you like…..even as the memory of the child fades back into darkness as you watch him go down the corridor away from you. When we see actor's face for the second time….think of that HOPE you get from the “inner child” . Act with your face ; just THINK … your face will reflect this in a closeup shot, THIS IS THE DENOUMENT OF THE WHOLE PLAY ….then straighten up as you sit back down on your stool to wait some more. Your hope continues even as you bow back down so that your face is again hidden. Paula and Chris….In ACT II and ACT III every time a window or door opens….it closes itself; try to convey this with the camera. This shows frustration and captivity very well. To play this correctly (not heavy handedly) remember that it is Irish theater and think of the WB Yates lines …. An aged man is but a paltry thing, A tattered coat upon a stick, unless Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing For every tatter in its mortal dress, Fri april 9th update: will sort out and review both the copied pages from the book and the script here: http://cave12.org/~aether/archive/2007.12.novi_sad/ghost_script/ghost_trio_table.htm Maaike Stutterheim will be the principal actor with cym/ideacritik on site/working in frame 5. Mari will handle a simplified text live in frame 1 . Paula will take the same role and frame as the last performance(frame 6).We will be working to the mp3 recording of the previous performance in Novi Sad so the exact length of preformance is 24:42 min from first voice. The sound will be a "known element" so we can fill in the acting. Are we using the color filters? or going more monochromatic? We start with all black...then text says "good evening"..... ...line 30 "sole seated figure" is 3min 44seconds into the performance. Is there time to tape the blueprint outline of Beckett's set...as it is on the page in the book...on stage? You and Cym will have your marks and camera lines already done. (this will be done) I will work on the list of words for the text for Mari....which will be just "key words" like door, pallet, rain, memory picked out of the text of the play. Beside being helpful to the audience, these words will help us know at a glance where we are in the play. I will handle the cues in Skype...ACT + SCENE in caps. acting notes/comments in small letters and live text in quotations and small letters ("door" )....we also need credits prepared in text to use at the end We have not resolved how to do the rain. Last time Natalie shot water through the glass door in her shower. Any ideas? anyone who is remote want to do this? Paula has too much going on with the hallway/door/child etc at this point in the play. Also....greys/static/visual feedback in frames7+8+9...who? and how? RAIN delt with. Next rehearsal IMPORTANT on APRIL 14 ~ 15-19 CET SHARP!!!!...more to come...must sleep a bit...goodnite everyone X....is this rehearsal time agreed? ghost study - performed in amsterdam (arti space) --- 21st april @ 21:00CET http://1904.cc/live/frameset_12_amst/mainframe.html performers: judy: [voice narrator] fe2cruz: [frame2 window] -9th & 14th(18CET ok) 21st ok no firm time preference manu: [frame 4] Paula: [frame 6] local crew: [frame5 central character cassette player and chair] mari: [blacks txt & pre-recorded rain] Mkk: I write here what I've understood what I'm up to and what I need in addition mentioned before, since I'm not going to be in the rehearsal 14.4. tomorrow. - I'm in charge of frames 1, 7, 8 and 9 (content during the performance as well as black outs in the beginning and end). - Few seconds before the start of the performance, the director need to cue me in Skype to put up the grey colours in three bottom frames and only after that to say to write ”Good evening”. This is because it takes few seconds from me ftp-upload they grey pics. I've made the grey pics, Judy said they are ok, but let me know if it's not good. I leave them playing for the interface today (Tue). - I put up the rain in ACT III - I've made more rain pics, I upload them to server tomorrow (Wed) for everyone to see. Judy again approved that they are oke. - I do the rain with ftp upload, so this is going to be exciting how I manage to write the words in frame 1 at the same time. If some words can be skipped in the beginning of ACT III, might be helpful. Again, we're talking about something like five seconds. - I would like to have a clear BLACK OUT cue from Skype in the end. This is probably good for everyone. - After black out I'll write – copy-paste - credits to frame 1... which are...? - I will be offline a lot starting tomorrow evening 14.4. until the evening of 20.4., but I will read my mails daily (once a day), please keep me updated. (Paula write) Clothes: I sugest after what we had on last rehersal, to put more clearly some details to make a sort of having the same actor everywhere. 1. A black hat or "cagoule". 2. Black coat, hiding the arms , just hands. For trying to look like an adult men. 3. The kid will be the same, but with short pants.. i will try to find some. A NOTE. about speed in read text and uploading. I will have a little delay in ACT I, scene 1... since Judy describe the space, I must upload the door, then the pallet (a sofa unfortunalety) but i can try to put a pallet on the floor. ( if i understand that pallet is the thing you put on the bed). so i will take a pallet from my son bed to put it on the floor and find also a mirror . just there. It will be good to have someone to make frame 4 , with the pallet and mirror, because it is more interesting to have more remote spaces... and not the same in 2 frames... Laure maybe.... where is she? IMPORTANT: is anyone NOT available on the 14th?? (mkk) About Novi Sad experience: http://www.cave12.org/~aether/archive/2010.04.ghoststudy_amsterdam/ The frame I had was with a character, an adult, opening a door, then another one representing the same person but like a child. Everyone whearing black. Nice coincidence. My actor had almost the same appereance of the Geneve actor. Making things very credible. Here some photos from the set in my location. Medellin. COL. http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulav/sets/72157604988730817/ I had to be working for this set with an assistant, to upload and write on the chat since I was asking the character how to move and what to do. I was also making the camera. The voice, the sound, was made by Judy. It was incredible, so pretty and hypnotic. To help make more sense for the local crew its just a chair and looking. You don't really need a window or door. You will be looking at either your cassette player in your hands or in the direction of the specified frame. The frames will have the actions window, door etc. To make it even easier we all wore black hoodies streaming in a uniform B/W constrast & bright lighting. It was the easiest clothing prop to make us all sorta be the same person. So Novi Sad just needs an actor, camera/computer operator, cassette player, chair, dark hooded jacket, & empty floor/background space. were good we just a casette player... The script might seem strange but if you know the piece you'll see they are just simplified actions synchronized. We'll need a good director for this one too. One to insure the frames are in synch and communicate commands in skype. what do you mean? ... the action frames are 2, 4, 6 the live frame is 5 with just a central looking person the frame 5 actor will either look in the direction of frames 2 4 6 or the cassette in thier hand I can man the window alone but mirror and door frames will likely need an assistant
